How Can I Help my Child Succeed in School?
As a parent or guardian, you know that children have much to learn to become productive adults. The goal of formal education is to instill basic knowledge and support critical thinking skills. To help guide the academic activities of K-12 students, educational standards* were developed. These standards define what all students are expected to know by the end of the academic year. They set grade-specific expectations but do not define teaching methods or intervention methods for struggling students. Teachers base their lessons on these standards and students who master the standards for their grade level are prepared for the following school year.
Educational standards are focused on producing individuals who are college- and/or career-ready. Understanding these standards will help you to support your child's learning at home. Learn more about your child's grade-level standards and ways you can help your child succeed in academics.
